As an increasing number of US states begin to liberalize their drug laws, allowing recreational use of marijuana and even harder substances in one notable case, policymakers, voters, and health care providers are facing a difficult challenge: how do they protect public health and safety as drug use slowly transitions from criminal activity to regulated hobby overseen by “health and wellness” centers?
