Throughout 2020, health care has dominated public discussion not just here in Wisconsin, but all across the U.S. as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to represent a unique public health risk unlike just about anything we have seen before. One of the central questions around health care right now is the matter of access and ensuring everyone is able to find a plan that's right for them. Unfortunately, due to a new regulation put forward by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), that has become more difficult for dialysis patients and patients suffering from end-stage renal disease (ESRD). I know the struggles that ESRD patients face all too well, as I've seen firsthand the unique obstacles my brother who struggles with kidney disease faces every day.
