A diabetes drug shows promise for protecting the hearts of mice from a fatty, sugary diet. Could it do the same for people?

The diabetes medication linagliptin can protect against stiffening of the left ventricle of the heart in overweight female mice, a new study suggests.

The finding may have implications for management of cardiovascular diseases in humans, particularly for obese and diabetic premenopausal women, who are more at risk of developing heart diseaseâ??even more than men of similar age and with similar health issues.
