As cities and counties throughout Missouri join onto a future prescription drug monitoring program, legislation to enact a statewide database to track certain narcotics is advancing but with some major changes to its original language.
The Missouri Senate voted 22-9 in favor of a state prescription drug monitoring program, or PDMP, designed to prevent so-called doctor shopping, or a patient going to multiple doctors for prescription pills. Despite its passage, the legislation was scrutinized by numerous like-minded senators who cited privacy concerns and questioned the effectiveness of prescription drug monitoring.
