In 2011, a serious shortage of mental health professionals at the Wilmington Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center was leading to longer-than-usual wait times for veterans. Actual wait times were not matching up with the appointments on the books, and Dr. Michelle Washington knew she had to say something. Soon after, she bravely testified before the Senate in the hope that it would produce change.
