Facing a national epidemic, the Obama administration is beginning to fight back against a powerful doctors coalition that has for years resisted new rules for prescribing painkillers.
The battle is coming to a head after a panel of outside advisers last week recommended that doctors receive mandatory training for prescribing opioids, something that is not currently required under federal law.
