Two social concerns dominating today's headlines — the epidemic of drug addiction and waves of illegal immigration — are pieces of the same puzzle. There is a common and cost-effective solution to this puzzle, and all we need to do is more of something we're already doing.
The bulk of our country's supply of illegal, addictive drugs comes from Mexico and Central America, as does the lion's share of our illegal immigrants. Building any kind of wall to stem these flows is a failure — the drug dealers and human traffickers already have tunnels and boats.
