Drug Maker: Sharapova Doping Is Great Publicity

Until tennis star Maria Sharapova said Monday she’d failed a drug test because she was using meldonium, few had ever heard of Latvian pharmaceutical company Grindeks. In the days since, the company says it’s seeing a spike in interest from all over the world.

“This publicity is only a benefit for the company,” Ilze Gailite, a spokeswoman for Grindeks AS, said in an e-mail. While it’s too early see any specific increase in sales volume, she said, "Demand for the product has increased both for us and in pharmacies.”
