The Obama administration is awarding $94 million to health centers to treat opioid and heroin abuse, the Department of Health and Human Services announced Friday.
The funding will go to 271 medical centers in 45 states, D.C. and Puerto Rico, with a goal to improve and expand treatment for substance abuse disorders, HHS said in a release. The funding should specifically be focused on treating opioid abuse among underserved populations, the agency said.
