The medical community is reeling after Martin Shkreli suggested his new company, KaloBios Pharmaceuticals Inc., would drastically increase the price of a treatment for the deadly parasitic infection Chagas disease, which affects more than 300,000 Americans.
In a public conference call with investors last week, Shkreli gleefully announced the purchase of the Chagas treatment and said that he would price the drug, benznidazole, similarly to hepatitis C drugs.
