Much to the concern of public health officials, controlling three common sexually transmitted infections continues to be a challenge, especially among teens and young adults.
The number of reported cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis nationwide increased last year for the first time since 2006, according to recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than half of U.S. chlamydia and gonorrhea cases occurred among those ages 15 to 24, with Illinois and Chicago numbers reflecting the same trends.
