New York City reported 2,718 new HIV diagnoses in 2014, the lowest number ever recorded.
City health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett announced the milestone during a celebration of World AIDS Day at the Apollo Theater in Manhattan.
"It is good news but not good enough," Bassett said.
The number represents a 35 percent decline from 2004, and a 9 percent drop from 2012.
