Doctors, Patients Team Up for Better Health

Welcome to modern-day medicine, where patients are taking active control of their health based on the Internet, Facebook and other available medical sources, including some not confirmed by science. Physicians now are being asked to embrace "patient-centered" medicine with "shared decision-making" to help avoid patient anxiety and improve outcomes.  

Numerous studies say this team approach is beneficial through improved communication with patients. But it also means doctors must spend more time with patients while ceding some control over what drugs and treatments they prescribe.
