White House Projects Flat Enrollment Growth

The Obama administration is predicting virtually no growth by the end of 2016 in the number of Americans with private insurance through the Affordable Care Act, defying other government estimates that suggested the coming year would usher in the program’s biggest enrollment surge.

Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell announced Thursday that, by late 2016, an anticipated 10 million Americans will have health plans in effect through the state and federal insurance exchanges created under the law. That figure is less than half the most recent forecast by congressional budget analysts and would mean a marginal increase from the 9.9 million Americans insured through the exchanges as of early summer.
